The Das Keyboard story takes us back to 2005 when the market and the production of mechanical keyboards had faded to almost nothing, with only Cherry providing some life support. At this time, Daniel Guermeur was a young programmer making his way in the world of coding. Needing to speed up his typing speed he found a keyboard with blank keys, no legends printed on them, and finding it helped him type 100% faster, Das Keyboard was born. The keyboard was a Cherry model and thus, along with blank keys, mechanical switches also gained a boost from the innovation of Daniel.

Soon Daniel found fellow coders and colleagues were interested, gamers and writers also, and the whole thing went from strength to strength. It is a milestone in the story of mechanical switch keyboards and their revival. And another reminder that when people need/want a better solution. The market surely follows.

So now, nearly 20 years on. Many of us are using mechanical keyboards and the world of keyboards has changed and developed such that we all enjoy a greater quality and a greater range of choices. As reflected in the great range we have at The Keyboard Company and the range made available under the ‘DAS’ label.

Being a coder, and being a thinker, Daniel innovated further. DAS were first to introduce a ‘knob’ on the keyboard. Allowing for easy control of volume, which is now seen on many models and makes. And more lately his programming skills were put to good use with the DAS Q software which in conjunction with a Das Q model keyboard allows for LED back light to illuminate keys as notifications from Gmail, Stack, Stock quotes and many more sources. It also allows for programming macros and strings.

Over the years Das Keyboard models have shown themselves to be amongst the most robust long lasting keyboards money can buy. The 100 million actuations of the Cherry MX switches helps in this, but overall build quality is also crucial. The design encourages fast, accurate and comfortable typing true to the original intention. Das Keyboard has built a reputation and a family of users who are dedicated users of the brand. Please feel free to join them.
